JLARC Study – Review of State Spending 2013 Update, Virginia Increases Spending Above Population Growth and Inflation
The JLARC review of 2013 state spending is now available. It finds that while state spending growth has slowed over the past ten years, controlling for popuolation growth and inflation, Virginia’s spending has risen 20%. The ten largest state agencies are responsible for the bulk of the growth in Virginia’s spending. Medicaid spending has doubled over the past ten years and the Department of Medical Assistance Services has overtaken the Department of Education in the same period of time.
